                                   FIRST FRIENDS

Many of us feel that we were a very lucky and fortunate group to have grown up in Darien in the 40’s and the 50’s. This wonderful small town afforded us good schools and teachers, a wonderful environment, culture, activities and looking back some very fine young men and women who grew up in Fairfield County. We were blessed.

Although we were very young, the war years hardly inconvenienced us as we lived with rationing, taped headlights and the Herald Tribune.

And then the 1950’s were a wonderful backdrop for our teenage years, Junior and Senior High School, Starlight dances, Long Island sound and the music of the 50’s.

A number of us were given the opportunity to go away to school. Scattered, like seeds, we developed new friendships along old school ties, yet still looked eagerly forward to returning to Darien for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring breaks and finally Summer. These “first friends" were still very close.

In June, 2002, many of us will be returning to our 50th reunions, on the east coast, at the various private schools that became our home away from home.

At the same time, there is still that irresistible urge to revisit those friendships of our growing up years. Towards that goal, we are having a Reunion on June 5th and 6th, 2002 with planned activities that will appeal to the interests of those who were “first friends”.

Darien was, after all, the incubator of our personality, values, and character. Wouldn’t it be perfect to revisit again….those who were at the core of our beginnings….to observe…. after 50 years… that we have changed very little…and that the fruit never falls far from the tree.
